Moderate to challenging: 7.5 miles roundtrip.
The Rancho Guadalupe Dunes Preserve is a 22,000 acre State Park stretching between Point Sal and Pismo Beach. It is home to the Santa Maria River Estuary where Western Snowy Plover and California Least Tern have their nesting grounds. It was a location for several scenes of the motion picture “Pirates of the Caribbean”. The dunes are covered with wildflowers in the springtime and include a natural arch formation on the beach. This hike along the beach and sand dunes winds around Mussel Point and includes a precarious trail to a secluded beach. Enjoy a natural rock arch among the tide pools, flocks of sea birds diving for fish, and the seals, otters and dolphin who make this place a nature-lover’s paradise. Conclude your time hike with our signature picnic lunch. {Due to distance (one hour drive each way) this tour is $250 per person}. Hike includes park fees & permits.
